Vivekananda Rock Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari lies at the southernmost tip of India at the confluence of the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. This exotic location is famous for its temples and 'sunrise and sunset' points.The Kanyakumari Temple or the Kumari Amman Temple on the shore, is dedicated to a manifestation of Paravati, Shiva's consort, as a virgin. The Vivekananda Rock Memorial, built in 1970 in memory of Swami Vivekananda, stands on one of the rocks, called Sri Padaparai, where the footprints of virgin goddess are to be seen.



Velankanni

Velankanni also known as the Mecca of South Asian Christianity is situated on the Coromandel Coast, in south India. A small thatched chapel was built at the site. The church is dedicated to 'Our Lady of Health', Virgin Mary. Every year a fascinating festival (29th August to 8th September) is held and pilgrims from all over the globe flock to Velangini to offer their prayers in various forms.

Chidambaram Temple Chidambaram

Chidambaram temple stands as an example of Dravidin architectural brilliance. The dancing pose of Lord Shiva in the form Nataraja (The Dancing God) is so elegant and graceful that, the rights stays alive in the memory of the onlookers for a lifetime. Chidambaram also called as Thilai (because of the presence of Thilai shrubs in multitude), is one of the fine Shaivite Mukti Sthalams, the others being Kalahasti, Kanchipuram,Tiruvannamalai and Tiruvanaikaval. A person of any race or religion can visit the temple.

KERALA

Lord Aiyyappan Sabarimalai

Sabarimalai Ayyappan Temple is a famous Pilgrim Centre of Kerala. The temple attracts pilgrims not only from the southern states of Kerala, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh but also from the other parts of the country and abroad. The unique feature of the temple is that it is open for people of all faiths and many Non-Hindus conduct pilgrimage to this temple. Erumeli Kulathupuzha, Ariyankavu, Achan Koil etc. are other important Sastha temples where lakhs of Sasthas are assembling during the Mandala Pooja and Makara Vilakku festivals.

Vadakkumnathan Temple One of the oldest temples in the State, the Vadakkumnathan temple is a classical example of the Kerala style of architecture and has many decorative murals and pieces of art. Within the main shrine resides Vadakkunathan or Lord Shiva, represented by a Mahalingam.

Tiruvilluamala Tiruvilluamala

Tiruvilluamala shrine, Kerala's most important temple dedicated to Lord Rama, is 29kms from Trichur. Another temple dedicated to Lord Rama, the Triprayar Temple is south of Trichur. It has exquisite wood carving and sculptures. The only temple in India, dedicated to Lord Rama's brother, Bharata, is the Kutalmanikyam temple in Trichur district. The waters of this temple tank are said to have curative powers.

Thirupati is one of the ancient pilgrimage centres in India. The shrine sits a top seven hills, a unique example of the Dravidian architecture. The temple has an exquisitely carved Gopuram facing the east. The Vimana is completely covered with the gold plate, known as Ananda Nilayam.

Venkateswara Temple Birla Mandir

Built on the 280 feet high Kala Pahad overlooking the picturesque, Hussain Sagar this temple is popularly known as the Birla Mandir. The temple is built with 2000 tonnes of white marble. The magnificent architecture of the temple is a synthesis of North Indian 7 South Indian style. The main temple is a blend of the Khajuraho & Budha Gaya of North Indian architecture.

Ranganathaswamy Temple

Temple of Lord Vishnu in the sleeping posture on the Great Snake Anantha, is one of the Largest temples in the State. It is a beautiful example for both Vijayanagara and Hoysala Styles of Architecture.

Chamundi Temple Chamundi Temple

Situated on the heights of Chamundi Hills, the Temple resides Nandi Bull's Sculpture, the Bull denoting vehicle to Lord Shiva, and is one of the only seven Bulls in the country. The Temple is having large silver gates and golden idols. The temple is approximately 13 kms from Mysore and is only accessable by road from the city of Mysore and is covered by all the package tour operators and the city excursions.
